Both Setucket Road and Old Bass River Road have excellent paved bike paths which offer
lengthy rides of 6 to 8 miles by doubling back.  We advise parking at the Dennis Town Offices
on Main Street,  just south of Route 6; in Dennis Village near Old Bass River Road,
off Route 6A; or at the Dennis Senior Center at the intersection of Route 134 and Setucket Road.

From Route 6A, Old Bass River Road is steep and narrow to Scargo Hill Road, where the
bike path begins.  You might want to take a detour one-half mile east on Scargo Hill Road
to Scargo Tower, and return.  The bike path on Setucket Road begins (or ends) on the east
at Quail Hollow Road, and on the west at Mayfair Road.  We advise against trying to make
a loop by riding Route 6A.  It is narrow, dangerous, and heavily traveled.

From the Dennis Town Offices, you have a short ride north over the Route 6 overpass to the
bike path on Old Bass River Road.  Guides to three routes in Dennis are given below.
 

Dennis Village Bicycle Route

Parking:                Sesuit Harbor public parking lot.  From the intersection of Routes 6A and 134 in
                              Dennis, north on Bridge Street to Sesuit Neck Road.  East and north to harbor.

1.0                         South and west on Stephen Phillips Road to Bridge Street.

1.5                         South briefly on Bridge Street, then southwest on Old Town Lane to Sesuit
                              Neck Road.

2.1                         West on Sesuit Neck  Road and Route 6A (briefly)  to Seaside Avenue.

2.7                         West on Seaside Avenue to Corporation Road.  North, briefly, to visit
                               Corporation Beach.

3.2                         South on Corporation Road to Whig Street.

3.6                         Southwest on Whig Street to Nobscusset Road.

4.0                         Northwest on Nobscusset Road to Shore Drive.

4.8                         West on  Shore  Drive to Bay View Drive, south to Beach  Street,
                              then east briefly to Taunton  Avenue.

5.4                         Taunton Avenue west to Dr. Bottero Road.

6.2                         West on Dr. Bottero Road  to Chapin Beach.  Enjoy the view!

8.3                         Return to Whig Street.

8.8                         Northeast on Whig Street to Hope Lane.

9.1                         Southeast on Hope Lane to Route 6A.  WALK carefully across Route 6A
                              to Old Bass River Road.

9.9                         Southeast (and UP!) Old Bass River Road to Scargo Hill Road fork at the
                              left, continuting east to Scargo Tower.  Walk up to the tower and enjoy
                              the spectacular view from the top. 

10.6                       Northeast (and DOWN!) Scargo Hill Road to Route 6A.

11.0                       Route 6A to Route 134 traffic lights.  WALK carefully north across
                              6A to Bridge Street.

12.0                       North on Bridge Street, and then east and north on Sesuit Neck Road
                              to return to harbor parking lot.

South Dennis Bicycle Route

0.4                       East on Upper County Road to Route 134.
                            WALK carefully across Route 134.

0.7                       North on bike path next to Route 134 to beginning of Cape Cod Rail Trail.

2.0                       East on rail trail to Depot Road (no sign; cranberry buildings on corner).

2.3                       North on Depot Road to Great Western Road.  Cross to Depot Road just east.

5.6                       North on Depot Road under Route 6, into Brewster, where it is Slough Road,
                            to intersection with Setucket Road.  WALK across Setucket Road.

5.9                       Bear right to continue on Setucket Road into Dennis.  Opposite Quail Hollow
                            Road, pick up bike path on your right.

8.4                       West on bike path past Route 134 and Old Bass River Road to Mayfair Road.

9.8                       South and east on Mayfair Road to Old Bass River Road.

11.0                     South on Old Bass River Road to return to Dennis Town Offices on Main Street.


 
 

West Dennis Bicycle Route

3.7                       West on Lower County Road to Lighthouse Road on left.

5.3                       Southwest on Lighthouse Road to entrance to West Dennis Beach,
                             then west to end of roadway at Bass River.  Stop for spectacular
                             ocean views.

6.9                        Reverse to Lower County Road.

7.8                        East on Lower County Road to Old Wharf Road in Dennis Port.

9.2                        East to Sea Street

9.4                        South to Sea Street Beach.
