LONGNOOK BEACH, TRURO
Description: Hike woodlands to former Air Force Station and Jenny Lind Tower
Place to Meet: Meet in parking lot at end of Longnook Road, Truro
Driving/Parking Directions: Turn off Route 6 at Longnook Road and follow to parking lot at end
Beach/Parking/ Resident permit may be required during the Summer months
Start: (note: underlined words have links to pictures)
- Head out of parking lot on Longnook Road and after 500 yards take first RIGHT
- walk past first driveway on left and second driveway (JMD) on right
- At fork bear LEFT and stay on main road, go up the hill, curves right
- Continue on main road until you reach a 3 way intersection and go RIGHT
- After 50 yards go STRAIGHT at ‘#29’ driveway. Do not turn on any driveways
- After 100 yards bear LEFT at ‘#37’ driveway. Do not turn on any driveways
- After 100 yards bear LEFT at ‘#39’ driveway. Do not turn on any driveways
- Continue a few yards and go RIGHT past split rail fence onto narrow path
- Go STRAIGHT at tee with ‘Wood Walk’ signs
- Enter paved Air Force Station area on pavement, go LEFT at chain link fence area
- Go RIGHT at next intersection. (Parking lot to left)
- Go LEFT at next intersection.
- At closed gate with ‘Authorized Personnel’ sign go RIGHT into thick brush path along Station chain link fencing
- Take in ocean view, then return and continue along fence.
- When near Jenny Lind tower, take RIGHT on small brush path to view tower
- Return on path turning RIGHT at fence, continue, past tall transmission tower
- LEFT at Laboratory parking lot to front of Air Force Station then bear RIGHT to trail on paved road
- RIGHT on Snake Rd on ‘Woods Walk’
- At 'T' continue STRAIGHT, barbed wire fence will be on right
- At intersection go RIGHT onto trail in woods
- At 'Y' go RIGHT
- At 'T' intersection, turn LEFT, Cement post on trail
- At fence and “#29” driveway sign turn RIGHT. (you were here before)
- At 3-way intersection go STRAIGHT on path (past blue pipe on left), roads to right and left
- At 'T' go LEFT
- Walk down a step hill and turn RIGHT onto Longnook Road
- After about 50 yards turn LEFT onto gravel drainage path
- LEFT at sand road, continuing STRAIGHT to gate and paved road
- Go up hill to FAA cone and
- Go STRAIGHT across field to small path in thick brush
- Walk down past FAA markers to Longnook Parking Lot.
