Mashpee Short Walks on Cape Cod
John's Pond
Drive north on Hoophole Road from Route 151 in Mashpee, to Back Road, then follow
the town signs to the Town Beach on John's Pond. The walk, led by Farley Lewis, is a
meander around Moody Pond and through cranberry bogs. Take the Topo Map with
you, and a compass to follow the route from waypoints 001 to 011, then back to 001.
About 4 miles.
Mashpee River
The long walk around Mashpee River may be shortened.
Wakeby Pond
Nancy Wigley led this meander through the Ryder Conservation Lands and Lowell
Reservation in Mashpee. Park at the little lot for Ryder on Cotuit Road, north of Route
130. Various paths abound. Follow the waypoints 001 to 008 as they weave around
the cranberry bogs, then drop down to the entrance to Lowell at 015, and walk out to
the point at 022. Reverse to 012, then to 009 and 001 directly. About 5 miles.
Mashpee Wildlife Refuge
Topo Map
Nancy Wigley scouted and led this important new walk in the Mashpee Wildlife Refuge
and Jehu Conservation Tract. Our GPS receiver went haywire (scrambled by PAVEPAWS?),
so the waypoints are from memory. We may not get back there for a while, so if you try
out the route, please email corrections to Webmaster. Red Brook Road is just below the
Mashpee/Falmouth town line on Route 28. Great Hay Road is 1.6 miles east. It is paved
on the north side, dirt on the south side. The walk is about 4 miles.
